I just went to see Sigur Ros (
[link]) live.
And I may have just broken my brain.
Fucking. EPIC.
Two huge things:
1. They played my favorite song, which I know isn't One of The Band's Famous Ones. So, like, 1 chance in 40 they would choose to play it.("Untitled #6")
AND
2. Right at the main release of their encore song - "Untitled #8", the epic twelve-minute ride - the rain began. All of a sudden. Fully. ON CUE. And all the audience reached up their hands as Sigur Ros belted out that FUCKING release, because we all were amazed and a little creeped out that they Called the Rain Down. That threatening rain would have been simply annoying if it started at any other time. There were a few sprinkles here and there beforehand, with people wincing and pulling on hoodies. But no: instead of shirking it with parkas....hands raised up to the sky, hair drenched, clutching fingers.
And the rain fell. HARD. FULL. And the curtains streamed in the flashing lights of the song's break.
SIGUR ROS CALLED THE FUCKING RAIN DOWN.
"Magical" is to wimpy a word for it. It was divine. It was a fucking spiritual experience.
You know the real meaning of the word "ecstasy"?
1. rapturous delight.
2. an overpowering emotion or exaltation; a state of sudden, intense feeling.
3. the frenzy of poetic inspiration.
4. mental transport or rapture from the contemplation of divine things.
Here's the second half of the song on youtube:
